What were you thinking?

Exercise helps you release unhealthy, negative emotions. The last financial year was particularly terrible for me and was unable to cope with terrible targets at work, attritions, new members in the team and so on. Thankfully swimming helped me handle it better. Stress hormones were released and with increased endorphins, the mood got a much-required boost. And ya, most of the times it was always work related stuff that would go on in my mind when swimming- ideas, rehearsing what I should tell a particularly problematic team member (then) , things to do at work etc.

When cycling, the thoughts, very often are about the people I see around in the morning - the milkmen arranging milk sachets ("Hope this guy doesn't forget to give me the extra 1/2 lit required today"), security guards who greet me with a cheerful "Good morning madam!" as I get out of the complex ("So much enthu at 5 am!"), runners ("Good to see enthu people") , random people walking on the road ("where are they going to so early in the morning?).

While running, the following are my thoughts
  • Visualize the song I am listening to or hum along
  • Random 1- rehearsing a conversation / presentation with a colleague / client,
  • Random 2 - Holiday planning - Forever husband and I plan holidays but invariably end up doing tiger safaris which we LOVE!
These days my only thoughts are about the much-dreaded "conversation" with Mr.S who is trying his best to retain me in the company while I have already put in my papers. It is going to be very difficult to get out of the conversation with a blunt "No, I can't stay". So invariably my thoughts during my run are on how best I can say this No and swing the conversation towards running/ fitness etc.

Quite eager to know what you guys think when you cycle/ swim/ run / do yoga, kick-boxing, aerobics and so on. Leave a comment on mail me here .

A quick update on the last few days. Bunked training on Friday. Saturday was a good 7 km run. Hate to skip weekend workouts and I had to, today thanks to some family commitments. Sigh!

  1. appreciate your idea of focusing on physical activity when the mind is troubled with day-today worries or let me say issues spring out from our life. Life is a choice, to be or not to be. Good that you have chose the positive method to tackle your issues.

Coming to your question, when I walk I do not listen to song or talk to anyone coz I was told that whatever you do walk, talk or eat your full concentration should be there.
